Making a Firefly

Between the show and movie version, I decided to go for the movie version because I think it looks better, the problem is that you don’t see nearly as much of the ship in the movie compared to the show so I had to guess a lot of things, but then I found out there were blueprints for the movie version here

They help fill a lot of the spots that we don’t see in the movie or the show, but in order to match with the outside some spots are a bit different than what we see in the movie, for example the infirmary and passenger dorms look smaller and the forward hallway looks longer.

So I decided to make it as close to what we see in the movie as possible and use the blueprints to fill out the rest.

Here is what I have so far

The Bridge

Looking at the movie, the amount of detail in this area is insane.

And that’s just one side, the other side is completely different

I haven’t even started on the other side

The Forward Hallway

This area is pretty close to completion, the only important thing remaining is Kaylee’s sign and lights

The Mess Hall

This area is also full of stuff that I need to make, right now it’s pretty empty

Aft Hallway

I just started this area so there’s a lot of detail to add

Infirmary and Cargo Hold

And here is a shot of the whole ship

Ultimately I want to make the ship fully interactive so that you can use all the control panels and have control of the ship, but for now I’m focusing on modelling.

You can download an early build here

and here is thread on the Oculus Developer Forums

Now I have to go find some plastic dinosaurs.
